Cats and fish go together, but in Shady Cats every fish has a price. Each one you eat wakes a dark shadow-cat that retraces your exact route, just a beat behind you. The longer you survive, the more crowded the level gets, and every jump you made a few seconds ago can come back to bite you.
It’s a fast arcade platformer that runs right in your web browser, on desktop or mobile, in landscape view. A round can end in a few seconds or stretch to several minutes, depending on how well you dodge.
On the surface, everything looks gentle: hand-drawn storybook scenes, round and cheerful cats, warm oranges and creams, sky blues and leafy greens. Underneath, the tension keeps building as a growing pack of deep-plum shadows closes in.
That’s what makes it so hard to put down. Every defeat is your own doing, because the shadows only copy what you did. There’s nobody else to blame, so you just hit retry.
Eat: Hop across the ledges and snap up the fish. Each fish is worth your current multiplier. Watch for the one marked with “!”, because that’s the fish that summons the next shadow.
Run and jump: Use the arrow keys or A / D to move, and Up, W or Space to jump. On a phone or tablet, use the on-screen left, right and jump buttons.
Wrap: Run off one edge of the screen and you pop out on the opposite side. Fall through the bottom and you drop back in from the top. Wrapping is your best escape route and your fastest shortcut to the next fish.
Dodge: A new shadow-cat joins the chase for every 7 fish you eat, up to 12 at once. A single touch ends your run. Fireflies show up once the shadows start piling up, and catching one wipes away a shadow.
Grab the golden fish: One appears every 15 fish. Catch it within 8 seconds and your multiplier goes up by 1 for the rest of the game. The catch is that it also stirs up a bee swarm (which grows each time) or a bully cat. Either one leaves after you eat five more fish.
Repeat: When a shadow finally gets you, your score turns into coins, medals and a spot on the leaderboard. Spend the coins on a new cat, then jump back in and chase a bigger number.
To pause at any time, press Esc, P or Tab.

Crazy mode is where strategy matters most. Level 1 asks for just 5 fish, then the target climbs to 10, 12, 14, and so on, capping at 20. From level 11, extra shadows join the party. Every level you clear pays out five times the level number in coins.
After each level, pick one of three power-up cards:
This game is where Shady Cats turns into couch-party chaos. Up to four people can share a single keyboard, each with their own cat color and their set of shadows:
When four sets of shadows tangle up in one small level, expect a lot of shouting and laughing. On touch screens, the on-screen controls support 1 or 2 players.
All five locations are open from the start and follow the same rules. Only the layout changes, and with it the routes you can run:
Prefer variety? Pick Random to cycle through all five.

Coins: every point you score at the end of a game becomes one coin. Crazy mode adds bonus coins for each level cleared.
Medals: there are 48 in total, 12 for each player count. They cover high scores, fireflies, golden fish, shadows, runs without wrapping and three good games in a row. Each medal pays out 30 or 150 coins.
Leaderboards: five boards (Normal for 1, 2, 3 and 4 players, plus Crazy) show your name and country flag next to your score.
Personal records: the game tracks your best score for each player count, plus your best Crazy level and score.
Free gift: watch a short ad for 50 to 100 coins, available once every 5 minutes.
Second chance: watch a short ad to revive, up to 2 times per Normal game.
Shady Cats pairs easy-to-learn rules and snappy pacing with charming art and one memorable idea. Play solo to beat your best, squeeze four friends onto one keyboard, or push deeper into Crazy mode. Just remember: every move you make now is a trap you’re setting for yourself. Looking for another quick daily challenge? Try Eraly, where you guess the year of seven moments from history.
