To unlock Nightmare, you must beat Danger 5 with 10 different characters. |
From a Fragile Egg to a Walking Arsenal
You start with just one small weapon and a graveyard crawling with aliens. After every wave, that tiny egg gets noticeably stronger: more guns, more blades, more rockets spinning around it. That feeling of growing power is the heart of the game.

How to Play
- Choose your character and difficulty. All 17 characters are unlocked from the start, each with its own strengths and drawbacks. New players should begin at Danger 0.
- Move and collect materials. Defeated aliens drop materials, which are both your shop money and your experience.
- Level up. Each level lets you pick 1 of 4 stat upgrades.
- Visit the shop between waves. Buy weapons and items, reroll, lock the items you want to keep, sell what you don’t need, and merge two identical weapons of the same tier into a higher tier (up to tier 4).
- Defeat the boss on wave 20. Once you win, you can climb to the next Danger level or switch on Endless to see how long you can hold out.
Controls
- WASD or arrow keys: move (optional follow-the-mouse movement is available)
- Weapons: aim and fire automatically, so there’s nothing for you to do.
- Q: reroll the shop
- E: lock a shop item
- Tab: view stats
- Esc: pause
This version supports desktop play only. Touch controls are not available.
Shell Survivor Tips
- Pick a build direction early. Put your materials into one or two weapon types instead of buying at random.
- Don’t risk your life for every last material. Materials left on the ground at the end of a wave come back as a bonus in the next wave.
- Watch your rerolls. Every reroll in the same shop costs more than the last, so use locks on items that are worth buying.
- Merge weapons early. Higher-tier weapons make a big difference when the screen fills with aliens.
- Keep moving. Standing still in the middle of a horde is the fastest way to lose.
- Grab the good stuff. Catch the loot alien running away with materials, pick up healing fruit, and open crates that drop during a wave.
Conclusion
Shell Survivor offers short runs that are easy to get hooked on: every run brings a different set of weapons, a different build story, and a reason to play “just one more run.” If you want a lighter shooter to switch to after those intense waves, try Marble Shooter.
